Day 7: Alaska to Mexico Rally 2023 - A Well-Deserved Rest in Dawson Creek"

After days of traversing dusty roads and conquering thrilling tests, there's nothing like retreating to the comforts of an air-conditioned hotel. The Pomeroy Suites in Downtown Dawson Creek turned out to be just the oasis we needed.

Rest days in rallies are often reserved for sorting out the inevitable wear and tear that comes with long journeys. Today was no exception, except for one twist. The sweep teams had teamed up with a local garage to tackle some of the more pressing repair jobs. It was a hive of activity as Adrian Hodgson and Christopher Grace's Austin and Chevy received some attention. These two had rubbed against each other a little too closely. The Austin was getting its bodywork buffed, while the Chevy was in the process of lashing together the manifold to get them over the border, where an obliging friend would deliver the necessary spares. The Chevy has seen its fair share of adventures, and the crew exuded confidence that it would continue to serve them well. Meanwhile, Steven and Midori Hitchins' Ford Mustang Shelby required some tracking adjustments. For many of us, it was also an opportunity to perform some much-needed maintenance, like blowing out air filters and getting rid of every speck of dust from every nook and cranny.

In the afternoon, the Rotary Club, together with Lee Harman and Winston Conyers, organized a delightful BBQ at the Pioneer Village in Dawson Creek. This living history museum was a fantastic setting for us to connect with the local community, and we had the chance to explore displays of vintage farm machinery, classic cars, and early domestic paraphernalia. As is the tradition on rest days, the crews were free to arrange their own dining experiences, but after such a satisfying midday feast, many of us opted for an early night.
