An Italian Adventure: A Journey of Work and Passion Among Legendary Cars

A Milestone for CARISSIMO

As spring blooms and summer unfolds its warmth, I am poised to embark on an extraordinary journey, a blend of work and fervent passion in the scenic landscapes of Italy. From April 23rd to the end of June, I will be immersing myself in an unparalleled adventure, under the guidance of Maurizio Colpani, a master Ferrari restorer with a rich lineage in the art of vintage car restoration. Maurizio, a mechanic by generation, has been intricately involved with the Mille Miglia and the restoration of these automotive jewels throughout his life, courtesy of his family's deep-rooted legacy in this field. Working alongside Maurizio, I'll have the privilege to learn the intricacies of restoring vintage cars that will participate in the Mille Miglia, a race that is more than just a competition; it's a historical reenactment that celebrates Italy's rich automotive heritage. The event, which traces a route from Brescia to Rome and back, encapsulates the spirit of endurance, showcasing cars that have written the history of the automobile.

Italy’s Prized Race

But the Mille Miglia is just a part of the automotive tapestry that Italy weaves. During my stay, I will also have the opportunity to immerse myself in various other car-related events, where the brands we'll be working with range from Ferrari to Porsche, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Osca, and many other special marques. Each of these brands carries its own story, a narrative of innovation, design, and racing prowess that has captivated enthusiasts for generations.

This journey is not merely a professional endeavor but a heartfelt pursuit to connect with the past and bring its lessons into the present. I look forward to sharing with you the stories of craftsmanship, heritage, and passion that animate these events.

Stay tuned for updates and tales from my Italian automotive adventure. Perhaps, in this journey of discovery and learning, there will be opportunities for our paths to cross. Meeting my clients and friends amidst the backdrop of Italy's celebrated car culture would indeed be a highlight.

A Legacy Preserved

The Mille Miglia, often referred to as "the most beautiful race in the world," is not just a car race; it's a moving museum, a celebration of speed, design, and history on wheels. Originally run between 1927 and 1957, it was revived in 1977 as a regularity race for classic and vintage cars. The route stretches over a thousand miles (approximately 1,600 kilometers) from Brescia to Rome and back, tracing the boot-shaped Italian Peninsula. It is a test of endurance and precision, as drivers navigate through breathtaking landscapes, ancient towns, and cheering crowds, all while adhering to strict timing and regulations.

The Mille Miglia attracts enthusiasts from around the globe, not only to compete but to witness these historic vehicles in action, reliving the golden era of motor racing. Participants are exclusively cars that would have been eligible for the original race, making it a unique event where history and sport collide. The race embodies Italy's deep automotive culture, showcasing legendary marques like Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, and Fiat, among others, and highlights the passion, craftsmanship, and artistry that define the Italian automotive industry.
